Organic Farming: Status, Issues and Prospects – A Review

    Get PDF
This review paper attempts to bring together different issues in the light of recent developments in organic farming. The after effects of green revolution have encouraged the farmers to take up organic farming. This paper has reviewed the global and Indian scenario with reference to organic farming. In India, the cultivated land under certification is 2.8 Mha only. The key issues emerging in organic farming include yield reduction in conversion to organic farm, soil fertility enhancement, integration of livestock, certification constraints, ecology, marketing and policy support. The potential for organic farming, especially in the dryland regions has been discussed. It has been argued that organic farming is productive and sustainable, but there is a need for strong support to it in the form of subsidies, agricultural extension services and research.Agricultural and Food Policy,

Application of Soft Computing for the Prediction of Warpage of Plastic Injection

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the development of accurate warpage prediction model for plastic injection molded parts using softcomputing tools namely, artificial neural networks and support vector machines. For training, validating and testing of thewarpage model, a number of MoldFlow (FE) analyses have been carried out using Taguchi’s orthogonal array in the designof experimental technique by considering the process parameters such as mold temperature, melt temperature, packing pressure, packing time and cooling time. The warpage values were found by analyses which were done by MoldFlow PlasticInsight (MPI) 5.0 software. The artificial neural network model and support vector machine regression model have beendeveloped using conjugate gradient learning algorithm and ANOVA kernel function respectively. The adequacy of the developedmodels is verified by using coefficient of determination. To judge the ability and efficiency of the models to predictthe warpage values absolute relative error has been used. The finite element results show, artificial neural network modelpredicts with high accuracy compared with support vector machine model

Comparative economics of different soybean based cropping systems in North-Eastern Karnataka

The research study was conducted in Bidar and Kalaburagi Districts of Karnataka. To study the comparative economics of different soybean cropping systems. A sample size of 160 farmers was selected using multistage random sampling method. Field level data were elicited for the agricultural year 2013-14 through personal interview method. Soybean + Redgram, Soybean + Jowar, Soybean + Bajra, and sole Soybean were the major cropping systems identified. Study revealed that, the average age of the sample respondents was 43, 45, 41, 44 and 43 years, respectively in CS-I, CS-II, CS-III, CS-IV and overall cropping system. The literacy percentage was highest in CS-I followed by CS-IV, CS-II and CS-III respectively. The net returns realized in these major cropping systems were ` 54443.20, ` 34108.18, ` 21047.27 and ` 13503.06 respectively. The gross returns realized in CS-I was highest, as compared CS-II, CS-III and CS-IV respectively. Similarly, the net returns obtained in CS-I was found to be the highest followed by CS-II, CS-III and CS-IV respectively. Returns per rupee spent was found to be the highest in CS-I. Among the studied soybean based cropping systems, CS-I (soybean + redgram) and CS-II (soybean + jowar) were found to be the most profitable system under rainfed condition in the study area

A Study on Sanctuary and Seclusion Issues in Internet-of-Things

    Get PDF
Internet-of-Things (IoT) are everywhere in our daily life. They are used in our homes, in hospitals, deployed outside to control and report the changes in environment, prevent fires, and many more beneficial functionality. However, all those benefits can come of huge risks of seclusion loss and sanctuary issues. To secure the IoT devices, many research works have been con-ducted to countermeasure those problems and find a better way to eliminate those risks, or at least minimize their effects on the users seclusion and sanctuary requirements. The study consists of four segments. The first segment will explore the most relevant limitations of IoT devices and their solutions. The second one will present the classification of IoT attacks. The next segment will focus on the mechanisms and architectures for authentication and access control. The last segment will analyze the sanctuary issues in different layers

Odontogenic Fibromyxoma of Maxilla: A Case Report

    Get PDF
Odontogenic fibromyxoma (OM) is a rare locally invasive, non metastasizing benign neoplasm found exclusively in the jaws. It commonly occurs in the second and third decade, and the mandible is involved more commonly than the maxilla. The lesion often grows without symptoms and presents as a painless swelling. The radiographic features are variable so the diagnosis is not easy in many cases. It posesa diagnostic and therapeutic challenge due to its morphology and biological behaviour. A caseo f OM of the maxilla with unusual radiographic and histological features is described in a 27 year old female

A bibliometric analysis of open knowledge resources : a study

The present paper deals with a Bibliometric analysis of the published literature on Open Knowledge Resources for the period from 2014 to 2019. The data for the study was extracted from the Scival database of the Elsevier. A total of 3943 articles were retrieved for six years. The present paper investigates the year-wise growth, highly ranked authors, highest contributed institutions, most productive journals and geographical distribution of the research output. The result shows that the United States of America has contributed the highest number of articles (885) on Open Knowledge. This study reveals that the highest number of publications were published in the year of 2018, and Piedra, N. of Universidad TĂ©cnica Particular de Loja, Ecuador has the highest number (15) of articles with 115 citations during the selected period, i.e. 2014-2019

Performance analysis of cooperative sugar factories in north-eastern Karnataka

    Get PDF
The study was attempted to measure the economic performance of cooperative sugar factories in terms of total costs and returns, capacity utilization, physical and financial indicators and ratio analysis of the factories. In this study the three cooperative sugar factories are taken into consideration and the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) for all the physical and financial indicators are worked out wherein the results suggested that a significant variation in the total cost and returns, capacity utilization and both physical and financial indicators over years within the three sugar factories was found. Further, the study revealed enough evidence about the financial ratios, which in turn showed the economic potentiality of the respective sugar factories. For the better performance of the factories an efficient planning and automation well before the start of the season is necessary and the government should come forward to help the farmers in making the cane bill payment at an early stage by the factories, by extending the financial assistance

3-[(4-Substituted) (2-oxo-1,3-oxazolidin-3-yl)-phosphoryl]-1,3-oxazolidin-2-ones (4a–j) were synthesized through a two-step process. Bis-(2-oxo-1,3-oxazolidin-3-yl)-phosphonic chloride (2) prepared by the reaction of two moles of oxazolidin-2-one (1) with phosphorus oxychloride in dry tetrahydrofuran in the presence of triethylamine and treatment with various heterocyclic aromatic and aliphatic amines under the same experimental conditions afforded the title compounds (4a–j). They were characterized by elemental analysis, IR,NMR(1H, 13Cand 31P) and mass spectroscopy. Their antimicrobial activities were also evaluated.Keywords: 3-[(4-Substituted) (2-oxo-1,3-oxazolidin-3-yl)-phosphoryl]-1,3-oxazolidin-2-ones, oxazolidin-2-one, bis-(2-oxo-1,3-oxazolidin-3-yl)-phosphonic chloride, antimicrobial activity, spectral studie
